Mazu's Great Love Safeguards Food Security

Recently, WAAS established public welfare cooperation with the World Mazu Culture Federation to launch "Mazu's Great Love Safeguards Food Security" for African food security. Taking Mozambique as the core demonstration zone, the project promotes locally adapted grain cultivation technologies and builds local emergency grain reserve systems.

Recentemente, a WAAS estabeleceu cooperação com a Federação Mundial da Cultura de Mazu para lançar "Grande Amor de Mazu Garante a Segurança Alimentar". O projeto tem Moçambique como zona de demonstração principal, promovendo tecnologias de cultivo adaptadas e sistemas locais de reserva alimentar.

US$1,500,000 Special Funding for Global Food Security
On August 13, the signing ceremony for the Strategic Cooperation Agreement between the World Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the World Red Swastika Society was held in New York, USA. The World Red Swastika Society will contribute US$1,500,000 to support WAAS's Special Public Welfare Initiative on Food Security.
A new collaborative platform integrating "technology and public welfare" has been established to jointly safeguard global food security.

Recently, the World Academy of Agricultural Sciences (WAAS) formally submitted the Open Letter on Urgently Addressing the Potential Food Security Crisis in Southern Africa through the official correspondence channel of the Non-Governmental Organizations Branch of the United Nations Economic and Social Council. Participating in the open call for themes for the 2026 UN High-level Segment, WAAS carried out dedicated work engagement concerning food-security risks in Southern Africa and has received positive feedback from the United Nations.
Background
Food security is a core priority for advancing global sustainable development. Due to the interplay of multiple complex factors, food-supply risks in Southern Africa have become increasingly prominent. The submitted open letter focuses on latent food-security risks in the region, calls for coordinated international action, consolidates cross-institutional and cross-organizational cooperation, and proactively prevents and defuses regional food-security hazards.
Next Steps
Going forward, the World Academy of Agricultural Sciences will continue to deepen practical cooperation with the UN system and international non-governmental organizations. Giving full play to its strengths in agricultural science-technology and international think-tank platform, the Academy will take an in-depth part in global food-security governance, contributing professional insights to resolve regional food difficulties and advance the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
