WAAS Establishes China Collaborative Laboratory for Cereal Crop Research in Partnership with Guangdong Haina Agricultural Research Institute

Language:

The World Agricultural Academy of Sciences (WAAS), affiliated with the International Agency for Science and Technology Development (IASTD), has recently signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Guangdong Haina Agricultural Research Institute to jointly establish the WAAS China Collaborative Laboratory for Cereal Crop Research. The official launch of the laboratory marks a significant milestone in WAAS's global research layout and regional collaborative innovation of cereal crops, and further consolidates the foundation of international scientific and technological cooperation for global food security and sustainable agricultural development.

Partner Institution: A National Core Research Platform

As a national core scientific research platform in the field of grain processing and cereal crop technology in China, Guangdong Haina Agricultural Research Institute hosts the National Professional Technology Center for Rice Processing of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China. Rooted in its national-level research accumulation in rice processing technology, cereal crop quality improvement and agricultural industrialization innovation, the institute has long undertaken key agricultural research projects at national and provincial levels. It boasts a mature research system, professional technical teams and abundant practical achievements covering the entire industrial chain of cereal crop breeding and cultivation, green pest and disease prevention and control, efficient ecological cultivation, as well as post-harvest intensive processing and value-added utilization. Its outstanding scientific research strength and industrial transformation capacity have gained full recognition from WAAS, laying a solid foundation for in-depth bilateral strategic cooperation.

WAAS: Advancing Global Agricultural Innovation

As a prestigious international agricultural research institution, WAAS is dedicated to advancing global agricultural scientific and technological innovation, accelerating the transformation and application of advanced agricultural technologies, and tackling core technical bottlenecks that restrict global food security and sustainable agricultural development. For a long time, WAAS has carried out in-depth strategic cooperation with top-tier Chinese agricultural research institutions, focusing on key research priorities including food security guarantee, high-yield and high-quality crop cultivation, and green ecological agricultural development.

Research Scope and Cooperation Framework

In accordance with the officially signed cooperation agreement, the two parties will carry out long-term, systematic and in-depth scientific research and project cooperation in core fields of cereal crop research. The research scope covers genetic improvement and precision breeding of cereal crops, green prevention and control of crop diseases and pests, efficient ecological cultivation technologies, sustainable agricultural planting models, as well as nutritional optimization and intensive processing technologies for cereal crops.

Operational Mechanism and Resource Integration

To support the standardized, efficient and sustainable operation of the collaborative laboratory, WAAS and Guangdong Haina Agricultural Research Institute will establish a long-term regular communication mechanism and set up a dedicated joint project management team. The team will be fully responsible for the laboratory's daily operation and management, annual scientific research planning, project implementation, achievement evaluation and academic exchange activities. This cooperative mechanism will effectively integrate WAAS's world-class global scientific research resources with the local technical advantages of China's national rice processing professional technology center, realize complementary strengths and resource sharing, and accelerate the output and industrialization of high-level scientific research achievements in cereal crop research.

Strategic Significance and Future Outlook

This cross-border strategic cooperation represents a vital layout for WAAS to deepen localized innovative research in China's cereal crop industry, as well as a key initiative to empower global food security with China's agricultural scientific and technological capabilities. Leveraging the dual advantages of WAAS's global academic resources and the national professional rice processing technology platform, the collaborative laboratory will build a world-class platform for academic exchange and technological innovation in the field of cereal crop research. Moving forward, WAAS will continue to uphold the philosophy of open cooperation and inclusive innovation, and deepen multi-field and multi-level cooperative research with outstanding agricultural research institutions in China. Giving full play to the platform value of the WAAS China Collaborative Laboratory for Cereal Crop Research, WAAS will work closely with Guangdong Haina Agricultural Research Institute to overcome major technical challenges in the global cereal crop industry, promote the iterative upgrading and innovative application of global agricultural technologies, and continuously contribute scientific and technological strength to safeguarding global food security and advancing the high-quality and sustainable development of modern agriculture worldwide.
