Announcement of the World Academy of Agricultural Sciences on the Establishment of the Yuan Longping International Agricultural College
In profound memory of the Father of Hybrid Rice and inheritance of the global food-security mission
To pay profound tribute to Academician Yuan Longping, the "Father of World Hybrid Rice", for his extraordinary contributions to global food security, and to carry forward his spirit of caring for humanity and striving for scientific breakthroughs, the World Academy of Agricultural Sciences (WAAS) has resolved to formally establish the Yuan Longping International Agricultural College, which shall serve as the core training arm of the World Academy of Agricultural Sciences for agricultural practitioners worldwide.
Institutional Positioning and Mission
Throughout his life, Academician Yuan Longping dedicated himself to hybrid-rice research. His technical achievements have been popularized and applied in dozens of countries and regions across the globe, delivering Chinese wisdom and Chinese solutions to the challenge of world hunger. Founded in this context, the Yuan Longping International Agricultural College aims to translate Academician Yuan Longping's scientific spirit and technological achievements into lasting momentum for global agricultural talent development. Drawing on the World Academy of Agricultural Sciences' global research networks and academic resources, the College will focus on core areas including hybrid-rice technology, sustainable agriculture, food-security policies, and agricultural scientific and technological innovation. It will deliver systematic, international-standard training programmes for agricultural researchers, technical extension specialists and agricultural administrators worldwide, with particular emphasis on developing countries.
Entrustment for Operation and Management
Upon review and approval by the Executive Council of the World Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the day-to-day operation and management of the Yuan Longping International Agricultural College is officially entrusted to Rocky Mountain National University. Rocky Mountain National University is a higher-education institution invested and administered by the World Academy of Agricultural Sciences. It will be responsible for curriculum development, faculty coordination, trainee administration and teaching evaluation for the College. The World Academy of Agricultural Sciences expresses sincere gratitude to China Biomedical Group Co., Limited, headquartered in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China, for its donation establishing the inaugural scholarship fund.

Academician Yuan Longping once stated: "My lifelong pursuit is to free all people from hunger." The founding of the Yuan Longping International Agricultural College represents the continuation and realisation of this lofty aspiration, and embodies the profound remembrance and highest respect of all members of the World Academy of Agricultural Sciences for Academician Yuan Longping. Upholding the principles of openness, inclusiveness, cooperation and win-win outcomes, the World Academy of Agricultural Sciences will pool global agricultural expertise and cultivate more outstanding professionals for the cause of global food security.

Disclaimer: In remembrance of Academician Yuan Longping's outstanding contributions to global food security, the World Academy of Agricultural Sciences has internally resolved to establish the "Yuan Longping International Agricultural College." This College is an unincorporated internal institution of the World Academy of Agricultural Sciences, dedicated exclusively to global agricultural public-interest training. Its day-to-day operations are undertaken by Rocky Mountain National University, and it conducts only non-profit, purely public-welfare training programmes. It is hereby declared that the establishment of the "Yuan Longping International Agricultural College" currently constitutes an internal decision of the Academy. Prior to formal external implementation, the Academy will seek the opinions of Academician Yuan Longping's family in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. The Academy further commits that the name "Yuan Longping" shall be used solely for this public-welfare undertaking and shall not involve any commercial purposes, so as to avoid any conflict of rights with relevant commercial licensing agreements. Should any sector of society have objections to the naming or programme arrangements of this institution, they are welcome to contact the World Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and the Academy will handle such matters with due prudence and responsibility.
